Vineyard Haven Activities & Attractions
Many people visit Martha’s Vineyard for the opportunity to enjoy the surf. Beaches on Martha’s Vineyard range from shallow clear-water on the northern and eastern sides of the island to rolling waves on the southern side. In Vineyard Haven there are three fantastic beaches for you to enjoy. Lake Tashmoo Town Beach, Owen Park Beach, and Tisbury Town Beach are in Vineyard Haven along the northern side of the island, delighting visitors with calm waters and soft sand. Town beaches are reserved for visitors and residents residing in that specific town, so a permit must be obtained from town hall in order to access town beaches. Check with your bed and breakfast innkeepers to determine which beaches you’re provided access to.
In Vineyard Haven you’ll find a handful of operations renting kayaks and boats for your pleasure. Enjoy rentals for a half-day, full-day, week or longer. Kayaks, canoes, power boats, zodiacs, and other boats are available. Rent or purchase the gear you need for surfing or windsurfing and sign up for lessons if needed. Enjoy a sunset kayak tour for a romantic end to your day on the water before returning to the luxurious comforts of your bed and breakfast.
Known for its gorgeous golf courses, Martha’s Vineyard entices golfers to hit the links of the island’s four courses. Mink Meadows Golf Club in Vineyard Haven boasts rolling terrain with ocean views and is open to the public year round.
Quite possibly the best way to get around the island is riding a bicycle and there are numerous bike shops from which you can choose to rent. From the seat of your bicycle you’ll marvel over picturesque views, enjoy fairly easy terrain, and enjoy a friendly vantage point from which to greet the island and the people who call it home. Pop in and out of your bed and breakfast as you hop on and off your bike, alternating between enjoying the cool ocean breeze as you ride about town and the peaceful relaxation at your bed and breakfast as you enjoy the comforts of a privately-owned bed and breakfast.
Visitors are drawn to the fantastic selection of art galleries on Martha’s Vineyard, and Vineyard Haven alone boasts galleries showcasing American modernist paintings and sculptures, oils and watercolors, island photography, and contemporary fine art along with espresso, coffee, and baked goods.
