Cooperstown, New York City Guide

For over 20 years, Pamela Lanier's Cooperstown, New York Travel Guide has been your connection to Cooperstown's tourism community with invaluable details on local attractions, restaurants, shopping, museums, history, outdoor recreation and more.

Shopping & Dining

The shopping in Cooperstown is everything you would expect from a small village-like setting. The sidewalks are lined with specialty, antique, gift and baseball shops; you certainly wouldn't want to go home without a team baseball cap or an engraved bat.

If you're looking for local food items or crafts, every Saturday the indoor Farmers Market is open for business. The market is a great place to find delicious, home cooked delicacies you won't be able to resist sampling. Perhaps you may want to bring home some cider or maple syrup, a jar or two of the homemade jams or a local craft item.

After all the shopping, stop for a bite to eat at one of the local cafes or grab a hot dog at Doubleday Field (games are played daily). You can also stock up on lunch items at the Market and have a picnic by the lake or at the park. In the evening, there are multiple dinner spots to choose from.

From Italian, French and American cuisine, a perfect evening out in Cooperstown is unavoidable, especially with the shimmering glow of Otsego Lake in the background. Some local specialties include homemade sausage, steak, braised duck, lemon grass lamb and pasta sautéed with farm-fresh vegetables. For the sweet tooth, try a "baseball-inspired treat…” called a “homerun" by Family Circle Magazine, made at the Cooperstown Cookie Company, available online, at the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Cooperstown General Store and other local retailers.
