Julian Outings
What better way to spend a day after a quiet morning at your romantic Julian Bed and breakfast than to head out to picturesque vineyards and taste wines from the local vintners. The town of Julian boasts family-owned wineries overlooking Volcan Mountain, serene winery locations perfect for picnicking, and Pinot Noir, apple wines, and Pinot Grigio. Nearby Ramona Valley is a lovely drive from your Julian Bed and breakfast, featuring boutique wineries with Cabernets and Merlots. Sip bold wines, sample sweet and crisp flavors, relax during a picnic lunch, and meander along country roads, returning to the comforts of your charming bed and breakfast.
Nestled between gorgeous mountains, Julian California provides beautiful trails for hiking and horseback riding, clear blue lakes for fishing, and meadows blossoming with wildflowers. Start your day with a hot cup of coffee and a made-to-order meal at your bed and breakfast, then follow a trail astride your horse as you catch views of Volcan Mountain Preserve and the peaks of Cuyamaca, or at Lake Cuyamaca where you値l enjoy boating, fishing, picnicking, and scenic nature walks. At Cuyamaca Rancho State Park your hike can take you to a pretty, seasonal waterfall, to an old Indian village, or past open meadows and gurgling streams. Within Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve you値l see breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and postcard perfect views of historic Julian. Build up an appetite as you explore the wilderness in Julian and then return to your bed and breakfast inn for an afternoon siesta after a quick lunch in town.
If you love hunting for clues and putting together pieces of a puzzle, then you値l love the Julian History Hunt. This on-going, year-round activity is fun for all ages and provides a fun-filled opportunity to learn Julian痴 town history while visiting some important historical sites. Stop by the Julian Chamber of Commerce to pick up your History Hunt card, follow the map on the back of the card to visit historic town sites dating back to 1872, and answer the card痴 questions pertaining to the sites you visit. While sleuthing for answers, you値l see the two-cell Julian Jail, the Pioneer Cemetery, and the Wilcox-Juch House, among other interesting historic buildings (you値l pass many unique bed and breakfasts along the way). After completing the questions on the card, simply drop the card into the labeled box at Town Hall, and you just might win $50!
Perhaps just a short walk from your Victorian Bed and breakfast, you値l find the Julian Pioneer Museum which displays Victorian-era pianos, an original Julian city buggy and sleigh, Indian artifacts, and clothing from 1896-1913. The Museum is housed in a historic building that was originally built as a brewery and later turned into a blacksmith shop.
