For a look at the unique arts and crafts of the local area, the Museum of North Carolina Handicrafts showcases a distinctive collection of art, handicrafts and furniture created by North Carolina artists. The Museum's displays include intricate woodworking, weaving, quilting Seagrove and other pottery, dolls, a Native American room, and many other artifacts. On Friday nights at the "Art After Dark" gallery showings, visit with the artists and have some refreshments; there's even live music. "Pickin' in the Park" at the Canton Recreation Park offers bluegrass music and dance teams, or perhaps you may want to attend a performance of The Haywood Arts Regional Theater, at the Performing Arts Center. If you're a wine connoisseur, a wine tasting is always nice at the Silohouse Vineyard and Winery. Take a leisurely ride through the magnificent mountains on the historic Great Smoky Mountain Railway, board in nearby Dillsboro; over 200,000 passengers enjoy the scenery each year aboard the excursion trains. |
