Shopping & Dining

Downtown was built for casual strolling, and browsing the shops and galleries is a delightful way to explore the culture and arts of Waynesville. Historic buildings along quaint brick sidewalks are filled with specialty and antique shops, galleries, gift boutiques, and there's even a vintage general store. If you you're looking for retail stores, go to the newer business district on Russ Avenue. When it's time to eat, downtown cafes and restaurants offer breakfast, a light lunch and delicious dinner entrees as well as a simple cup of coffee and scrumptious dessert mid-day snack. If you’re looking to dig in to some local specialties, the one meal you won't want to miss out on is a tasty southern barbeque: fried green tomatoes, macaroni-and-cheese, hot biscuits and pulled pork on Texas toast with iced tea. A fine dining option that is a little more health-conscious: mountain trout from a local stream.
