Museums

There are several wonderful museums in Santa Barbara that you won't want to miss. The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is the oldest in the city and best known for its wide range of Chumash artifacts in addition to numerous other exhibits. Visitors will learn about the history of mammals and marine life as well as the lives of the Native Americans. Kids will have plenty to do as the museum offers classes and hands-on activities for all ages. The Santa Barbara Historical Museum was built by the Santa Barbara Historical Society to preserve rare artifacts, photographs and furnishings from the Chumash, Spanish, Mexican, American and Chinese influences. Another really special museum is the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Over 4000 years of ancient to modern Asian, American and European art is displayed within the museum’s 3 galleries as well as the works of Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso.
