Outdoor Activities in Astoria

As a true Western town, Astoria locals place a great deal of pride in the amount of outdoor activities available at your fingertips. Your bed and breakfast innkeeper is sure to provide you with a list of their personal favorites, but until then…here are a few of our own.

One of the most exciting outdoor adventures is the Columbia Water Trail, which is a 146 mile water trail along the Lower Columbia River and out to the Pacific Ocean. Rent a canoe and take on the whole trek or just a few miles. Whatever you choose, you'll see breathtaking scenery and have a story to tell for a lifetime!

Another great way to get outdoors is to visit the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park, located at Fort Clatsop. Here you'll see where those famed explorers spent their time while in Astoria, and even see a mock-up of their camp. Start your adventure at the visitor center, where you can watch an orientation film, buy some souvenirs at the gift shop and even partake in a ranger led program. Being at Fort Clatsop is the perfect opportunity to take an educational and exciting hike. There are many hiking trails around, some of which (like the Fort to Sea trail) actually follow the same path early explorers took between the river and ocean.

If you visit an Astoria bed and breakfast in the summer and want to catch some rays at the beach, make the short trip to the Arcadia Beach State Recreation Site. There you’ll find a sandy beach in which to dig your toes or and the cool Pacific water to enjoy a quick dip.
