Outdoors & Festivals

Charleston Waterfront Park attracts bed and breakfast travelers from all walks of life. The path along the pier is perfect for walking or a quick run while admiring the fabulous view of the harbor. If a family day of fun at the beach is what you’re looking for, then go to Folly Beach. This family friendly park features a boardwalk, picnic areas, water sports and a splendid beach.

When visiting Charleston, bed and breakfast travelers should make sure to visit a local festival for festivals are an intricate part of the Charleston experience. One of the top twenty events, and the largest free festival in the Southeast, is The Summerville Family YMCA Flowertown Festival. This three-day event has been held in historic Summerville at Azalea Park on April 4th, 5th and 6th each year for the last thirty years. Hundreds of artists and craftsmen from around the country display some of their most magnificent work. This is a real family event with all kinds of specialty foods for everyone’s enjoyment and there are plenty of fun activities for the kids. At the Kids Jubilee, your children will be invited to participate in some arts and crafts or join in a game before hitting the rides.

Other festivals worth planning your visit around include, the Maritime Festival where bed and breakfast travelers can tour the tall ships and view the extraordinary art of boat building. The Spoleto Festival, a seventeen-day event that features music, dance and performances of actors and singers from around the world. And finally, the Moja Arts Festival features a blend of African-American and Caribbean music and art.
