Charleston Museums & Aquarium
The Charleston Museum, located in Historic Downtown, is said to be the first museum in North America. Many of the artifacts on display date back to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars periods. Visitors will be awed as they learn about Charleston’s natural history and complex, rich culture. The museum is an experience for the whole family and kids are encouraged to venture into Kidstory, a hands on portion of the exhibit.
For art enthusiasts, Gibbes Museum of Art is a required stop during their visit. The museum proudly exhibits American collections of renaissance, colonial and contemporary art. This is the only virtual art museum in Charleston where visitors are encouraged to ask questions.
For the curious visitor that wants to interact with the sea, enjoy a full to half day at the South Carolina Aquarium. The two-story great tank is home to loggerhead sea turtles, sharks and many other animals. The aquarium is a habitat for numerous species of fish from the extensive coastal areas of the Carolina’s. The exhibits and the touch tanks are designed to teach visitors about the many mysteries of marine life and their living environment.
