On the Boardwalk
One of Santa Cruz’ most unique attractions is the 100-year old Santa Cruz Boardwalk, one of the oldest amusement-park areas on the West Coast. It’s almost like stepping back into time (one of its roller coasters is even a National Historic Landmark) as you wander through the vintage arcades and shops or hop on one of the restored rides. But, not everything is historic. There are plenty of new rides that would give even seasoned thrill-seekers a charge, including the Cave Train 2000, a new version of an old favorite. There are about 30 rides in all, plus miniature golf, bumper cars, shooting galleries, game arcades and tons of food vendors and gift shops. For those who would rather pass on the heart-pumping activities, there is the Beach Train, which takes you on a peaceful journey through the redwood parks and forests along the shore.
