Historic Mariposa California
After a leisurely morning spent relaxing at your Mariposa Bed and Breakfast, a nice cultural outing will surely round out the day. Stop by the California State Mining and Mineral Museum in historic Mariposa to learn about the importance of mining and minerals to California state history, the environment, and the future. The Junior Ranger Program offers activities for children, and the museum sponsors an annual gem and mineral show complete with exhibits, food, children’s activities, dealers, and more. The Mariposa Museum & History Center portrays the people and lifestyle in Mariposa County from the Native Americans and Spanish periods to the California Gold Rush and into the early 1900’s. While perusing the outdoor display, you’ll see mining equipment and historic buildings as well as a 5 stamp gold ore mill, the only operational one in California. Inside the museum, you’ll learn about Miwok Indians, experience a one-room miner’s cabin, and authentic Mother Lode saloon. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to learn the unique history of the area and experience first hand aspects of the California Gold Rush. Don’t forget to ask your innkeepers what they recommend you do and see. There is nothing better than the referral from a local whose business is to share Mariposa with bed and breakfast visitors.
