History
Granbury is filled with mysteries and tales surrounding Jesse James, John Wilkes Booth, Davy Crockett, Billy the Kid and others. Legend has it Jesse James didn’t die at the hand of Robert Ford in 1882, but rather lived to the ripe old age of 104, having died of natural causes. Curious visitors will find a tombstone in the Granbury cemetery that reads “CSA - Jesse Woodson James. Sept. 5th 1847-Aug.15th 1951.”Billy The Kid, who is said to have died in NM in 1881, is rumored to have moved to the nearby town of Hico, TX where he lived to the healthy age of 90. Some say he even attended Jesse James' 102nd Birthday Party in 1949.
