History
Settled by German immigrants in the 1800s, Fredericksburg – named after Frederick the Prince of Prussia –was once the manufacturing capital of Gillespie County, making everything from peanut oil, furniture, metal works to leather goods. Fredericksburg has also become known as a tourist center and a resort town. In fact, the town’s economy relies on the influx of tourists who come to take in the natural beauty, local food, historic landmarks and annual events which carry on the heritage of the German pioneers that built Fredericksburg.
