Preserving Their Heritage
Designated as a “Preserve America” community, the heritage of Fredericksburg abounds. The Pioneer Museum, on Main Street, is probably the best example of Fredericksburg commitment to preservation. Once the home, smokehouse and barn of the settler Henry Kammlah, the museum complex houses artifacts and exhibits from the pioneer days. It’s almost like walking into a time machine as you wander through a veritable recreation of life in the 1800s. The Vereins Kirche Museum next door has permanent exhibits of the area’s history and rotating photo exhibits. For those interested in a different era of history there is also the National Museum of the Pacific War, the Admiral Nimitz Museum, the Japanese Garden of Peace and the Center for Pacific War Studies.
