The Arts in Moab

Moab can boast of the most artists per capita in Utah. Drawn and inspired by the stunning natural beauty, artists flock to the town. This dense population of artists is reflected everywhere in town; from the murals on city buildings to the many galleries that both showcase and sell local artist's work. One particularly interesting Moab art form is the rock art practiced by the Fremont and Anasazi cultures. This Native American art has lasted from before the town was founded by Western settlers. There are thousands of examples of this fascinating rock art in and around the town. The best way to truly appreciate the artists within the Moab population is to attend the many festivals the town holds annually. These festivals draw thousands of visitors a year, and yet they still remain, small, intimate and will certainly ingratiate you into the culture of Moab. The Moab Music Festival and the Moab Folk Festival showcase both local and international music, while the Moab Arts Festival brings people out to the beautiful Swanny City Park. At either festival you will get a sense of how the beautiful landscape inspires the artists-- even as a visitor, you will feel connected to your surroundings, and you , too, will be inspired and encouraged. A trip to a Moab bed and breakfast--even a short one-- will stay in your head forever, and you will feel as if you've seen a paradise on earth.
