Located a quick 20-mintue drive from Williamsburg in Newport News is the Mariner’s Museum, one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime museums in the world. The museum houses an internationally renowned collection of maritime artifacts, figureheads, handcrafted ship models, and hundreds of artifacts recovered from the sunken Civil War ironclad USS Monitor. The picturesque natural setting amidst a scenic park and the shores of Lake Maury, make a visit to the Mariner’s Museum well worth the drive from Williamsburg.
A fantastic weekend of fun in a charming historic setting awaits patrons of the Virginia Arts Festival. The annual celebration, lasting almost two months, features a lively variety of musical performances including jazz, classical, and rock music as well as dance productions and acrobats.
