Shopping & Dining
The shops of the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area offer travelers an 18th century shopping experience. Take home treasures from the jewelry merchant, the skilled tradespeople, the nursery, the seamstress, and the bakers. Handmade willow baskets, heirloom seeds and plants, handcrafted leather goods, 18th century petticoats and gowns and caps, along with chocolates, port wine, and preserves are among the many products shoppers swoon over when perusing the stores of Williamsburg. There may not be enough time in the day to visit all the shops, but those who are truly dedicated will certainly make the effort!
When in search of a superb spot for shopping, head to Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown. The lovely waterfront location and colonial buildings feature a variety of retail shops and delicious restaurants. All the area has to offer is conveniently accessed through a mile-long pedestrian riverwalk as well as a free trolley running spring through fall. On weekends live entertainment can be heard from the performance area, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself spending an entire day and evening at Riverwalk Landing.
The Historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown will delight those hungering after a simple sandwich, a Colonial tavern, ethnic delights, or a cup of coffee and a sweet treat. Your colonial experience doesn’t have to end when you walk into a restaurant, savor slow-roasted prime rib, fresh local seafood, barbeque, and colonial fare including Peanut Soupe and Game Pye. Wash your meal down with gingerale, rootbeer, or apple cider, and save room for dessert! Apple Brown Betty, Bread Pudding, and an irresistible selection of signature ice creams will tempt you to eat more than your fair share.
