Next, you'll want to tour Tuckahoe, Thomas Jefferson's plantation. Once you've experienced the highs and lows of the Revolutionary War, you'll want to move on to exploring the Civil War. As the capital of the confederacy and close to the birthplace of Robert E. Lee, Richmond experienced the Civil War and all its horrifying and triumphant results first hand. The very geographical position of Virginia-- sandwiched between the South and North, made it uniquely vulnerable to the horrors of war. You can best visualize this through a tour of Richmond's Civil War battlefields.
