The most earnest of tourists will never be disappointed with lovely Tacoma, a city whose backdrop inspires artists and writers from around the world. Tacoma’s weather is mostly mild with rain falling during the winter months. Today, the city’s downtown culture extends itself to and beyond the museum and theater districts. Touring the area is easy, especially when most of the sites are within walking distance of one another.

Tacoma is one of the most diverse cities in Washington State, located on the exquisite Puget Sound and surrounded by 56 miles of panoramic Mount Rainer National Park. The city’s name is derived from the Indian name for Mount Rainer “Tacobet,” meaning “Mother of the Waters.” In the 1800's the Northern Pacific Railroad built it's western terminus in the area of Commencement Bay. Throughout the years the Port of Tacoma has become a major port and an International Trade Center for the Pacific Coast. Tacoma’s industries comprise of computer components, wood, oil refining, paper and food products. In the 1990's Tacoma refurbished the downtown area to include the University of Washington and the Tacoma Link electric light rail.
