Tacoma Museums, Zoo & Aquarium

Three of the most intriguing museums in the city are located adjacent to each other-the Tacoma Art Museum, the Washington State History Museum and the Museum of Glass. A great way to explore the museums is by taking a brief stroll through the Chihuly Bridge of Glass and the historic Union Station. At Union Station experience the distinctive glass art displays of Tacoma’s world-renowned local artist Dale Chihuly. The Tacoma Art Museum is also home to Chihuly’s magnificent glass art as well as other incredible exhibits. The Washington State History Museum is for those who would like to learn more about the state’s heritage. There is also a hands-on History Lab located in the museum for the kids to explore. The most intriguing aspect of all three museums is the 90-foot silver cone of the Museum of Glass. The museum hosts an amphitheater where artists create colorful works of art with molten glass.

The Port Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is set up to entertain the young at heart and the kids. The zoo houses wolves, penguins, birds and many other animals. There’s a kids Zone for ages 3-8 where children can touch and learn about the animals. The Wild Wonders Outdoor Theater offers scheduled shows where wild animals indigenous to the area, such as the Bald Eagle, show off their talents. The Aquarium houses sea horses and several species of fish from the North and South Pacific. The Marine Discovery Center offers a touch pool where the kids can interact with the local marine life.
