Outdoor Adventures

A fun filled day at Point Defiance Park will include something for everyone in the family. Before checking out the Japanese Pagoda and flower gardens, take a five-mile drive along the scenic route. Most visitors stop along the way to admire the breathtaking views of the Puget Sound, Vashon Island and Gig Harbor or they might take a hike along one of the picturesque trails. Set off to the Marina if visiting the salmon capital of the Puget Sound, catching sight of a whale or watching a bald eagle soaring through the sky sounds like a fun thing to do. If salt-water swimming seems enticing then continue on to Owen Beach for a swim, kayaking, boating, and a picnic or for some relaxing time in the sun. If interested in sailing a chartered ship, take a ride on ‘The Tall Ship’ at Thea Foss Waterway in the Port of Tacoma. For the nature lover who enjoys a relaxed stroll, consider visiting the Tacoma Nature Center which offers tranquil trails around Snake Lake. Before the end of the day take the time to visit Fort Nisqually Living History Museum which dates back to the 1800’s and was the first settlement in the area.

Mount Rainer
Depending on the time of year you travel to Tacoma, a day trip to Mount Rainer may very well be the highlight of any vacation. Mount Rainer stands proud as the highest mountain in Washington State. Outside of Alaska, Mount Rainer the largest single-peak glacier and the tallest volcano in 48 states. Each season at the park has its own beauty to offer, although fall may be the most picturesque with layers upon layers of bright red and orange foliage. There are hiking trails, rivers, waterfalls, sledding, snowmobile and phenomenal skiing at Crystal Mountain and White Pass. Enjoy the day and bring home memories of a lifetime that this natural wonder has to offer.
