Eat, Drink and Be Maryland
The bed and breakfast traveler who loves seafood won’t find it hard to indulge in St. Michaels. In the heart of Chesapeake Bay, St. Michaels offers an eclectic array of restaurants featuring the local seafood fresh from the catch. Cafes and crabs shacks dot the harbor where oysters are shucked and Maryland Blue crabs are steamed to order. In the evening there are plenty of fine dining establishments, some with breathtaking views of the harbor at sunset or the charm of an historic inn.
For the bed and breakfast traveler who has an appreciation for wine, visiting the St. Michaels Winery is a must. The St. Michaels Winery located at the historic Old Mill Complex in town offers daily wine tastings from $5.00 to $10.00 a person including cheese, crackers and a souvenir wine glass. They also give tours of the winemaking facility and their store features all of their wines and local cheeses from Chapel’s Creamery.
During the month of April, bed and breakfast travelers must come to St. Michaels with a big appetite and an open heart. In late April locals join together to host the St. Michaels Food and Wine Festival, held on the grounds of the Chesapeake Maritime Museum. Thousands of people gather for the annual fete where they are treated to gourmet recipe demonstrations by guest chefs, wine tasting and seminars and jazz performances.
