Mystic History
At the beginning of the seventeenth century the Pequot Indians had a stronghold in southeastern Connecticut. The arrival of the English traders and colonists brought tension and skirmishes, as well as disease, decimating about 80% of the Pequot population. The Mystic River Valley under colonial rule grew in population, infrastructure and economy. In the early 18th century Mystic was the largest of the three villages along the Mystic River, its economy composed of agriculture, manufacturing, road building and maritime trade. In time, Mystic became a leading seaport and it is this standing as a maritime legend that makes it an attractive bed and breakfast destination today. More recently, Mystic was used as a backdrop for the films Mystic Pizza (1988) and Amistad (1997), placing it more firmly on the map as a bed and breakfast destination. As a bed and breakfast traveler, you will enjoy exploring the many historic attractions in Mystic, Connecticut and will find a wealth of knowledge and insider’s information in your bed and breakfast innkeepers.
