Festivals

There is no better way to share in Hermann's wonderful heritage and culture than to attend one of the many festivals that are planned throughout the year. Some of these festivals actually date back to the late 1800's, such as the "Maifest" to celebrate the end the school year. Then on June 21st to commemorate the summer solstice there's the "Rhythm & Brews Festival". The "Barbeque and Brats Festival" at the Hermann City Park offers lots of food and entertainment. The "Celebration of Freedom" on the 4th of July starts with a colorful parade and then a full day of concerts, delicious food and to end this super day dazzling fireworks at the riverfront park. But to really celebrate the old-world heritage of German culture, "Oktoberfest" fills the streets of Hermann for four weekends in October with oom-pah bands, dancing, bratwurst and beer. "A Taste for the Arts Festival" offers a remarkable insight into the work of the regional artists through demonstrations and exhibits. For quite a different art experience, attend the "en Plein Air" (meaning painting outdoors). Artists come from all over the nation to paint their masterpieces in the village of Hermann's gorgeous surroundings.
