Museums
 A perfect way to really experience Hermann's unique past is by touring the museums. A great place to start would be at the Deutschheim State Historic Site, a German cultural museum. The lives of the early German settlers are portrayed explicitly through their Deutschheims (German homes). The oldest stately aristocratic house in Hermann, the 1840s Pommer-Gentner house and a 19th century timber barn are located on the site. Authentic furnishings, porcelains, silver and period tools are on display and there's also a recreated garden from the mid-1800s, complete with traditional plantings. Open for tours is the Carl Strehly house and winery; the house once accommodated a printing business that produced German- language newspapers. Another historical site where you can step back in time is the Hermann Farm & Museum. This is a 160-acre working farm that is a National Landmark Living History Center with a model vineyard, stables, wagon building shop, livestock, creamery, a cheese making facility, a Hofgarten (German performance and event center) and a children's garden.
The German School Museum will bring to life the history of Hermann through the exhibits, lectures and tours. As you approach the building, notice the working 1871 clock tower. Across the street from the German School is the Gasconade County Historical Society Archives & Record Center. You may want to do some genealogical research or further learn about the history of Gasconade County. But to see some interesting historical fire equipment that dates back to the 1800s, schedule a tour of the Hermann Fire Company Museum.
