Lewes Outdoor Activities
If you love the outdoors, a visit to Cape Henlopen State Park is a must during your Lewes bed and breakfast vacation. Although the beaches are lovely and attract many swimmers and sunbathers, there is much more to see and do. Enjoy a friendly game of disc golf, observe the native bird population, throw a line and see what kinds of fish you can catch, or even pick up a permit to go hunting. Hiking and biking opportunities are available on paved trails or along the beach. Some trails are closed during nesting season so be sure to contact park officials or pay close attention to signs. All this nature makes for wonderful photography opportunities and a climb to the top of the World War II Observation Tower of Fort Miles provides a spectacular 360 vista that changes with each season. Consider having your bed and breakfast hosts pack a delicious picnic for you so you can spend the day enjoying nature. For avid birders, spring and fall are the best times to see hawk migration. There is also a video camera that sends live feed from an osprey nest. The park also hosts outdoor concerts and special events for which your bed and breakfast innkeepers can provide more details.
With all the water that surrounds Lewes, what could be more enjoyable than a cruise? Choose from many different types of cruises including sightseeing and dolphin or whale watching. Evening cruises offer the perfect vantage point for watching romantic sunsets. The bed and breakfast angler will have no trouble arranging a charter to sport fish out on the open ocean or in the Delaware Bay. Your bed and breakfast innkeepers can direct you to outfitters and launch sites for the type of fishing you are interested in.
