Lewes Attractions
The Kalmar Nyckel is a tall ship replica of the original ship that brought settlers to Delaware. It can often be seen in Lewes and cruises can be taken on the ship. Arrange your Lewes bed and breakfast escape when the ship will be in the harbor for a taste of history and some enjoyable sailing.
The Cape May-Lewes Ferry crosses the Delaware Bay and makes for a great outing. You'll see historic lighthouses, scenic harbors and the ferry terminals themselves are great destinations for shopping, restaurants or lounges. You can put your car on the ferry or be a foot passenger and use the shuttle bus at the various points of interest. Ask your bed and breakfast innkeepers for scheduling details and remember car space is limited so reservations are suggested.
The Nassau Valley Vineyards is Delaware's first and only award winning winery and is located in Lewes. It is a great place to visit for traveling wine lovers. Tours and tastings are available as well as specialty tastings and food and wine pairings. Perhaps you'll discover a vintage you'll want to take back home or enjoy at your bed and breakfast.
Downtown Lewes is truly a walking town. If your bed and breakfast is located near downtown, strap on a pair of good walking shoes and set out for an afternoon of exploration. The Lewes Historical Society offers guided walking and trolley tours as well as entry to the historic buildings in downtown Lewes. There are 20 stops on the tour which you can make yourself or join a group. Ask your bed and breakfast innkeepers for schedules and ticket information.
