Jefferson Activities & Attractions
A visit to historic Jefferson isn’t complete without a ride on the Historic Jefferson Railway. The live steam, narrow gauge railway will take you on a journey through history as you ride along the Big Cypress Bayou, through Piney Woods, and back to the historic town of Jefferson. The Ghost Train of Jefferson is always a huge hit, and after a late night on the train, you’ll look forward to returning to the creature comforts of your luxurious bed and breakfast!
Outdoor excursions not far from Jefferson include Caddo Lake and Lake O’ the Pines. Caddo Lake beckons travelers to explore its waters, a prime spot for fishing, and tour the majestic swamp of bayou waters surrounded by cypress trees, Spanish moss, and water lilies. Lake O’ the Pines invites you to bring your ski boats, bass boats, jet skis, and sail boats to enjoy a fantastic time on the water. Spend your afternoon fishing for bass, catfish and crappie, and revel in a wonderful day on one of Northeast Texas’s most beautiful lakes.
For a fun night out in town, find time for a performance by the Bull Durham Players at the Jefferson Playhouse, a live music show at Music City Texas Theatre in Linden, or an opera performance at the Opera House Theatre in Jefferson.
Touring historic Jefferson homes is always a visitor favorite, including stops at Scarlett O’Hardy’s Gone With the Wind Museum, House of the Seasons, Singleton’s Virginia Cross, and many others. Tour through historic homes decorated in period furniture and antiques with immaculate gardens in picturesque settings.
