Things To Do In Calgary
One of the most popular events since 1912 is "The Calgary Stampede" (the world's largest outdoor rodeo). Spectators and competitors from around the continent have been coming to Calgary every July to join in on the excitement that surrounds this fabulous event. The event kicks off with a colorful televised parade through the downtown area. There are free pancakes for everyone and many of the local businesses are decorated western style. The excitement is endless with ten fun- filled days of rodeo competitions, stage shows, concerts, chuckwagon races, exhibitions and a midway to keep you entertained until the wee hours of the night.
The Olympic torch burnt brightly at the top of the Calgary Tower during the 1988 Winter Olympic Games making the tower the world's largest torch. The view of the city is breathtaking from the top of the tower and exciting. Visitors truly understand the feeling of being suspended in mid-air the moment they step out onto the glass floor of the Observation Deck at the top of the Tower. The feeling may be somewhat scary and exhilarating with the city beneath your feet, but it's a one of a kind experience that you won't want to forego.
The whole family will enjoy themselves at Calaway Park. This is Canada's largest outdoor entertainment park. There are over 30 rides for all ages to enjoy, tasty food and musical entertainment. An outing to the Calgary Zoo, the Prehistoric Park and the Botanical Garden is also as great way to keep the whole family entertained. The Prehistoric Park is an exploration into the lives of the thrilling dinosaurs of the past and the zoo introduces visitors to some of the most interesting, rare and endangered species of animals that inhabit the earth today. The exhibits at the Telus World of Science inspire the young and the old. There, journey down the path of our bodies and minds and learn how science creates the universe. The exhibits are mesmerizing and the kids won't want to leave the creative kids museum. Avid bird watchers and visitors alike will adore the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. The walking paths along the Bow River are a haven for the rare species of birds that migrate to the area every year. For those a little more adventurous, take a rafting tour, ski or climb the Rockies.
