Museums

A day at the museum is an understatement in Calgary mainly because there's so much to see. The museums are filled to the brim with history and culture and it is important to plan ahead to assure you don’t miss anything. There are seven Military Museums including the largest navel museum in Canada, a discovery center and a history and strategic studies library. The Glenbow Museum is phenomenal and it's the largest museum in Canada. The museum preserves the western heritage with a collection of art, historical documents and artifacts from all over the world. Sports fans in search of something a little different will thoroughly enjoy the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The museum features a hands-on experience with the art of playing baseball, soccer, football and hockey. Visitors have a blast pretending to be sportscasters in the press box or throw a few pitches in the baseball field. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop filled with sports memorabilia to take home. Movie buffs are always delighted with the exhibits and the original movies posters at the Museum of Movie Art. To learn about the history of Canada's Chinese culture, plan a visit to the Calgary Chinese Cultural Center. The center focuses on the Chinese heritage, the arts and the sports that are a contributing factor to Calgary's Chinatown.

Heritage Park Historical Village is another exciting attraction exhibiting three decades of Canadian history. The village is a museum devoted to inspiring visitors to learn and participate in life as it was for the early Canadian settlers. While you're at the park, be sure to head over to the amusement park for some rides at the antique midway or hop on the authentic locomotive steam engine. Another look into Canada's history is at Fort Calgary, the original site of the Canadian Mounted Police.
