Museums in Atlanta
Atlanta museums prove that educational experiences need not be boring! One of the most exciting museums to visit is The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. One of the most widely visited museums in Atlanta, The Southern Museum is a Smithsonian member and has three permanent collections (and many prestigious traveling collections) that are sure to impress you! Here, you'll see a glimpse into the daily life of a Civil War soldier and a depiction of the Civil War's Great Locomotive Chase, when Union Soldiers stole the General Locomotive from Confederate Forces. Another place to witness a real picture of the Southern past is the Archibald Smith Plantation Home, once owned by Archibald Smith, one of the founding fathers of Atlanta. Here you'll see what a true plantation looked like-- it has been carefully preserved and nearly untouched from its plantation days. For something the kids will love, visit the Braves Hall of Fame and take a tour of Turner Field. You can trace the roots of this historic baseball team, and see parts of the field (luxury boxes, dugouts) that you never thought you'd see! |
