Dining in Antigua
Though your bed and breakfast hosts will provide you with a generous breakfast, you’ll want to save some room to try out the local restaurants. Locals in Antigua take pride in the variety and taste of their cuisine. Cooked with local, fresh ingredients, you'll find everything from homemade cheesecake to the traditional rice and beans plate on restaurant menus. One restaurant not to miss is Cafe Condesa, located right off the courtyard and tucked away behind a stone wall. Elegant and intimate, you can share a slice of moist, buttery cake and sip on a cup of locally grown coffee. Because Antigua is one of the foremost centers for Spanish language schools, many students throng the streets. This promotes many small, hip cafes in which to enjoy a cup of coffee or some good ol' American cuisine. Of the most fun restaurants is the Funky Monkey, where you can enjoy nachos or cheeseburgers on the roof top cafe. From the history buff to the restless teenager, there’s something for everyone in Antigua; and it’s all in a beautiful atmosphere where you can safely walk back to your bed and breakfast at the end of the night.
