Attractions

Aside from its fabulous proximity to the water, the city’s waterfront is alive with both cosmopolitan and cultural activity. Leading to the Gulf of Hauraki and the Bay of Islands, is Waitemata Harbor busy with ferry traffic. Earning recognition for its beautiful vistas and thriving wine making culture, the once hippie hangout Waiheke Island, is laden with magnificent sculptures lined with the native vegetation landscape is a short jaunt from downtown.

Replete with cafés, parks, and shops, the charming north shore costal town of Devonport has a great view of Auckland from across the harbor. In a region passionate about its environment, there is a myriad of gardens in Auckland, from small to sprawling. Wander through unique native rainforest beneath towering kauri and totara trees, stroll around elaborate subtropical plantings, or potter about intimate cottage gardens. Home of the famous Americas Cup Harbor, Auckland offers a diverse array of fun exhilarating experiences.

Friendliness is intrinsic, and not initiated by the anticipation of gratuity, as tipping outside of restaurants is not encouraged, nearly everyone working in the hospitality arena is said to be superbly gracious and efficient. Consisting of the Main Gallery and the New Gallery, the Auckland Art Gallery boasts the country’s most extensive collection of both New Zealand and international art, exhibiting work from its collections along with the national and international touring exhibitions.
