Introduction & History
The city of Barcelona has enticed visitors from all over the world with its rich culture and cosmopolitan ambiance. The lure of the exquisite Mediterranean coast and the views of the lush hilltops in the background set a romantic mood that artists and photographers have been capturing for hundreds of years. Once you experience all that this breathtaking city has to offer, you will never want to leave.
Barcelona is a city steeped in history that dates back some 2000 years ago when the Carthaginians first settled in the area. Throughout the years that followed the city went through many conquests but its location on the Mediterranean made it an ideal trading port. By the end of the 18th century industrialization began and by the 19th century the city produced machinery and textiles that led the way to the fashion industry. Today, the city is a large economic center and a principal Mediterranean port for cargo and cruise ships. The industry sectors include tourism, textiles, chemistry, pharmaceutical, electronics, telecommunications and computers.
