Adventure Awaits Just a Stone’s Throw Away

With Belize City located along the coast of the Caribbean, and perched at the mouth of the Belize River, it’s no wonder that it’s a popular destination for bed and breakfast travelers who are feeling the urge for water sports and endless natural adventure. Because limestone is one of the primary rocks making up the foundation of Belize, caves abound all over. While caving alone and unescorted can be a dangerous way to explore, experienced guides are readily available to show you all the ins and outs of these awe inspiring natural wonders. Be sure to check in with Major Tom and his son Tom Jr, and let them show you the natural wonder and excitement of cave tubing. After a short, leisurely hike through gorgeous jungle trails, Major Tom will lead you floating down the pristine waters of the Sibun Caves Branch for a relaxing and very enjoyable afternoon.
Scuba diving and snorkeling are also fantastic in the Belize City area, and Skin Diver Magazine has called Belize “one of the western Caribbean's premiere dive destinations”. Water visibility reaches 100 or more feet, and the water temperature typically stays around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a premier destination for practically any water sport the bed and breakfast traveler can imagine. The many rivers and creeks surrounding Belize City are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. The wildlife is a sight to see, and Belize City boasts world-class fishing just off shore. Birders in particular “flock” to Belize City to view over 500 species of birds found there and in the surrounding area. Golfers will find an interesting experience awaiting them in the closest golf course. It is a treat just to get there, consisting of either a 30 minute water taxi ride, or a 10 minute plane ride away. The Caye Chapel Island Resort golf course is an 18-hole course that has unique challenges for any golfer.
For the bed and breakfast traveler interested in exploring the ancient Mayan civilization, the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha and Lamanai await. Both are only an hour away from Belize City, and are well worth the visit for any history buff, or simply for someone who wishes to see the awesome remains of this once great and powerful civilization. These temple pyramids and bygone city sites are still causing great interest today, and are offering archeologists continually deeper insights into the Mayan culture.
