Overview of Negril
With miles of beautiful beaches located on the southwest region of Jamaica, Negril is a bed and breakfast vacationer’s nirvana for watching the sun set in the Caribbean Sea. The Spanish named the area Negrillo in 1494, the name being a diminutive of the word black, but the name was eventually shortened to Negril. The black cliffs, located just south of Negril, are thought to be the inspiration for the name. Despite the early settlement, Negril did not develop into a vacation paradise until the latter part of the twentieth century and has been a bed and breakfast jewel ever since. From its island décor to lavish breakfast filled with fresh tropical fruits, Negril bed and breakfasts are sure to delight any bed and breakfast aficionado. The charm that Negril assumes is largely due to the fact that it remains rather underdeveloped. The hippies of the early seventies found an unhurried and laid back atmosphere here that many of whom, now professionals, have return to Negril to recapture the carefree lifestyles of a day gone by. Dubbed the “Capital of Casual”, the relaxed manner in which business is carried out allows visitors to feel completely at ease. This is, however, not to suggest that there aren’t activities for those looking for adventure and thrills. |
