Island Style Eating
Negril offers a wonderful selection of restaurants to suit the most discerning palate. Given the relaxed lifestyle practiced here, fast food is not an option (unless you’re looking for hot Jamaican patties or something fresh from the bakery). But that doesn’t mean your budget won’t be accommodated. What you will find is lots of variety, romance, exquisite architecture, great locations and exotic décor.
Seafood and fresh fish caught daily, Jamaican food, dim sum, North American and International cuisines are some of the food choices you’ll find.
If atmosphere is important you’ll find lots of it. You can dine on a cliff overlooking the bay or right on the ocean’s edge. Perhaps a beach barbecue is more your style, or a hip party bar with a giant water trampoline. No doubt you won’t go hungry.
Some traditional island dishes you won’t want to pass up that best represent the island include: Jamaican beef patties (flaky dough filled with beef, chicken or vegetarian); chicken curry (chicken marinated in yellow curry that falls off the bone); goat curry (you’ll never have better goat); dumplings with chicken (stew with moist bread-like goodness); red beans and rice (cooked in coconut milk and green onions); jerk chicken (jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica in which meats are dry-rubbed with a very hot spice mixture called Jamaican jerk spice); and so much more. Negril is a foodie’s wonderland filled with bold, rich flavors that you’ll come back for time and time again.
