Attractions
Martinborough is famous for its fine wines and is well worth a visit. The climate is similar to that of the Burgundy area in France, causing the town to become the vineyard centre of the Wairarapa. Nowadays there are more than 15 wineries near to the town, some of which are open for tasting. The Ruakokopatuna Chasm and glow-worm caves are spectacular and should be seen. The town was laid out like a Union Jack, by its founder, the Hon John Martin. Until the early 1980´s the surrounding area was used mainly for sheep and cattle farming.
