Merida Museums
The Regional Anthropology Museum is home to many original stone carvings from nearby Mayan sights. This museum also contains rare objects made of brass and copper, which debunks the myth that Mayans did not use metal. The Canton Palace Museum of Anthropology, located on the Paseo de Montejo, exhibits objects representative of the Mayan Culture in its 7 rooms as well as temporary shows of contemporary art and photography. The palace was once the residence of several governors and is one of the most imposing buildings of the city.
In addition to its history museums, Merida has an interesting array of specialty museums like the Numismatic Museum of Mexico with its collection of more than 2000 coins from different periods, the Ateneo Peninsular Museum of Contemporary Art that features works of renowned Mexican artists and the Museum of Yucatan Songs with its music themed exhibitions and live performances.
