Festivals
There are several festivals in Oaxaca that are fun and enjoyable for the whole family. The largest and most attended cultural festival is the Guelaguetza Festival which takes place on the last two Mondays of July each year in a large, open air auditorium in a spectacular hillside setting. Folkloric dance companies from the diverse regions in the state perform to live music while dressed in authentic, regional costumes. The pageantry is extraordinary! The ‘Dia de los Muertos’ (Day of the Dead) Fiesta is held on October 31st and the 1st and 2nd of November each year, honoring deceased family members. While this festival honors the dead, the music, colors, costumes and celebrating are far from dead.
