Events

Rome has always been the place where festivals and events take place all year round. Ancient Romans celebrated anything and everything. During the reign of Augustus, there were “only” 115 festivals in a year. Each ruler after him added more festivities to the calendar. Today, Rome offers a wide variety of events and festivals to suit its citizens and visitors. Find out which ones you don't want to miss, then align your trip or vacation round those fabulous shows and extravaganzas. There is never a dull moment in Rome.

Rome’s special events calendar is filled each month of the year. First, Rome’s Independent Film Festival hosted in February, the Eurochocolate takes place in March, followed by the Good Friday Procession usually held in April. The Expo Tevere is celebrated in June, while July hosts the High Fashion Show of Trinità dei Monti, and culminating in August is the end of the three month long Gay Village festival. September features the International Urban Theatre Festival, trailed by the Great Autumn Market that opens in October. The Roma Jazz Festival runs from October to November followed by a host of other special events and festivals which fill the time through December and January.
