Packed with office towers, shopping malls and fast-food restaurants, men chattering on mobiles and girls in low-rise jeans, San José is one of the more cosmopolitan than other Central American capital.

San José offers a good selection of arts and crafts shopping and, in many cases, offer better deals on some items than popular tourist beach towns will. Coffee and coffee liqueurs tend to be the most popular items with shoppers in general.

The city is in the heart of the country; department stores, fast-food restaurants and shopping malls are all part of usual life in San Jose. Many attractions and benefits are sourced from the city.
