San Miguel de Allende Attractions

Most of San Miguel de Allende’s sights are in close proximity in the downtown area. A must for seeing the town is a comfortable pair of walking shoes. The streets are paved with cobblestones and the sidewalks are narrow, so exercise caution when walking, especially if wet. The colonial churches of San Miguel Allende are the town’s best representation of architectural beauty. The combination of neo-gothic and neoclassical styles decorate the outer façades as well as the interior features. The Iglesia de San Francisco was designed by José Churriguera who was famous for his extravagant exterior surfaces. The Iglesia de la Concepción has a two-story dome which is one of the largest in Mexico. La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel dates back to the 17th century. The design was copied from a Belgian church of gothic style and it is truly enchanting at night when blazing with lights. Many of the public buildings of San Miguel de Allende house works of art and paintings created by the famous artists who visited and worked here. The home of General Ignacio Allende is now a museum exhibiting the historic collection of weapons, documents and personal items of this hero of Mexican independence.
The San Miguel trolley bus is an excellent way to see the town. Late afternoon is a particularly beautiful time to plan your tour. The overlook at the Mirador viewing point, especially at sunset will give a beautiful and romantic view of San Miguel de Allende.
Your bed and breakfast innkeepers can help you with times of operations and tickets details for all the venues that interest you.
