San Miguel de Allende Events
Easter holy week or Semana Santa, is celebrated with parades, parties, pageantry, prayers and more. It lasts for two weeks rather than one and although it is not an event staged for the tourists, the Christian celebration attracts visitors from around the world.
Each June San Miguel de Allende commemorates El Dia de los Locos (Day of the Crazies). It’s a spectacular event that combines both Halloween and Carnival with people dressed in exotic costumes throwing candy to onlookers. The colorful paper umbrellas sold will both protect you from the sun as well as catch the candy that is thrown.
In July, San Miguel de Allende and nearby Guanajuato host an international film festival, a competitive event with over 80 countries presenting films in a multitude of categories.
Independence Day is celebrated in September with fireworks, dances and parades. Not for the faint of heart but you can also try Sanmiguelada, San Miguel Allende’s version of running with the bulls, which also happens the same month.
San Miguel de Allende also hosts the Chamber Music Festival and the San Miguel Jazz Festivals attracting musical talent from around the world. You can discuss the details of all these unique events with your bed and breakfast innkeepers when making your plans.
