Sydney Attractions
Sydney has a compact city center filled with many of its cultural and tourist attractions, making it a relatively easy city to navigate for bed and breakfast travelers. The sprawling suburbs of Central Sydney also hold fascinating sights and attractions worthy of exploration and help to give Sydney its standing as a diverse metropolis.
Sydney’s City Center consists of the Sydney Central Business District and surrounding harbor frontage and parkland. The business district is a beehive of activity during the week but very quiet when the office workers head home. The Circular Quay is the hub of Sydney Harbour, perpetually bustling with buskers, a ferry terminal, and an overseas passenger terminal. Perhaps the first thing you’ll recognize in this part of town is the world famous Sydney Opera House with its very distinguishable architecture resembling large white sails. If you love opera and/or classical music, perhaps your bed and breakfast hosts can assist you in securing tickets prior to your arrival. Tours of the building are available but rehearsals or performances may restrict access to parts of the building. For a spectacular view of Sydney, Sydney Tower (Australia’s tallest structure) offers a viewing level 250 meters above the ground. Don’t forget your camera at your bed and breakfast—these are some of the best views in the city!
Sydney has a wide selection of museums spanning a large variety of themes to satisfy all museum buffs. For classical, aboriginal, contemporary and modern art, head to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The Australian Museum has an extensive collection of natural science and cultural artifacts. When booking your bed and breakfast accommodations, inquire about any special exhibits that may be taking place during the length of your stay. The Museum of Sydney has a fascinating array of changing exhibits that take the visitor through the life and times of early Sydney.
Take a sunny day to appreciate the beautiful beaches and coastline of Sydney. Bondi Beach is Sydney’s most famous beach with a bustling carnival atmosphere that offers something for everyone. There are kiosks to rent lounges, umbrellas, and even bathing suits if you happen to forget yours. Surfing is best on the south end of the beach, but for calmer waters perfect for floating lazily or collecting seashells, the northern end is preferable. Be sure to ask your bed and breakfast innkeepers where they go to catch some sun and waves; they might just be willing to share their secret hideaway with you.
After an exciting day of exploration and sightseeing, you can return to your bed and breakfast inn and share your adventures with your innkeepers or other guests over a delightful glass of Australian wine.
