Wellington, New Zealand City Guide

For over 20 years, Pamela Lanier's Wellington, New Zealand Travel Guide has been your connection to Wellington's tourism community with invaluable details on local attractions, restaurants, shopping, museums, history, outdoor recreation and more.

Shopping

Downtown Wellington is the ideal shopping destination, and the Lambton Quarter has the most concentrated shopping in New Zealand. It is where world famous retailers mix with unique stores. The beautifully restored Old Bank Arcade is one of the city's famous landmarks, and offers some of the best shopping, along with restaurants, cafes and bars. Thorndon, Wellington's oldest district, offers a great selection of arts and crafts, antique shops and galleries, including the city' oldest fine art gallery.

On Cuba Street, street performers and musicians ply their trade in front of shops, offering everything from crystals to lava lamps, along with bargains like secondhand book and music stores, vintage clothes and galleries.

Many of Wellington’s own fashion designers have their flagship stores in the Willis Quarter. Check out Voon, Starfish and House of Hank. Explore Civic Square, The City Gallery and catch the views from the City to Sea Bridge.

Courtenay Place has plenty of boutiques to tempt shoppers on Blair, College and Vivian Streets, and on Oriental Parade. Wellington Market on Wakefield Street has a varied range of craft and gift stalls, and also sells second-hand goods and furniture.
