Winter Attractions
With the mountains around Lake Tahoe receiving between 300 and 500 inches of snow a year, the first thing on every bed and breakfast traveler’s mind is invariably skiing and snowboarding. Lake Tahoe has a total of 182 ski trails among its seven ski resorts, including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and the ever-popular Heavenly. Try stomping around in the powder with snowshoes, or glide across it with some cross-country skis. For a faster ride in the glistening snow, find a nearby hill and sled or tube down it for easygoing family fun. For a much faster ride, rent some snowmobiles and dash through the forests for an exhilarating thrill.
When you’ve had enough of playing in the snow, head on in to the cities and keep warm with some indoor activities. Warm your blood up with some shopping- Lake Tahoe offers unique shops along with your department store favorites. If that doesn’t get your blood pumping, try your luck at one of Nevada’s fine casinos and gamble late into the night. Be sure to check the playbill of the casinos before your trip and see what performers will be in town while you are there.
