Bite Into History
Founded by the historian and poet Sharlot Hall in 1928, the Sharlot Hall Museum is the largest history museum in central Arizona. Not only does the museum have constantly rotating exhibits of natural and human history, but it goes beyond its walls by sponsoring festivals, theater performances and living-history events. The Smoki Museum boasts an impressive collection of prehistoric artifacts, pottery and jewelry as well as Southwest basketry and kachinas. It also is home to the largest collection of artist Kate Cory's oil paintings and photographs. The Phippen Art Museum features contemporary and historic art of the American West and sponsors the annual Phippen Museum Fine Art Show and Sale on Memorial Day Weekend.
