Sites to Behold

When you think of Western films, you can't help but picture the iconic red rock buttes that loom in the background as cowboys and Indians battle it out on horseback. In fact, almost one hundred Hollywood westerns were shot in and around Sedona, and the area continues to attract filmmakers from around the world. There are several tours available in Sedona that will guide you through the magical canyon country, including Jeep tours, hot-air balloons, horseback treks, mountain bike trails, hiking trips and even helicopter rides for a bird's eye view. You can even join an expedition tour that will take you to the ancient ruins of the 700-year old Sinaguan cliff dwelling and help you decipher the petroglyphs and unique rock art on the walls.

One of the most unique attractions in Sedona is the Chapel of the Holy Cross. Wedged between two red rock formations on the outskirts of town, the chapel is considered a center of spiritual and architectural wonder. Designed by Marguerite Staude, a pupil of Frank Lloyd Wright, in 1956, the chapel has a towering 90-foot cross and panoramic views of the buttes and valley. It is an ideal place to contemplate nature's beauty and to take some time for self-reflection.
