Freeport Shopping

Before the burgeoning tourist trade, Freeport was known for its shopping. And while other activities have cropped up to dilute some traveler's attentions, Freeport is still a major destination for those seeking a shopping bargain and you'd be remiss not to stop by and see what all the fuss is about. From a shopping experience as simple as outlet shopping to unique gifts in a funky downtown boutique, Freeport has it for you! Although outlet shopping may not sound exciting, the stores that Freeport has to offer ( J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and Burberry are just a few) will surely tempt you! For a fun shopping experience, head down to Freeport's Main Street and visit Bridgham & Cook, Ltd, which sells all British goods. In a fun nod to Freeport's first settlers, you can buy British apparel, tableware and even soaps and lotions. And while you're on Main Street, you shouldn't miss a visit to The Mangy Moose, which has unique gifts that your family back home will love. The Mangy Moose strives to create a fun and interesting shopping experience and certainly succeeds! Of course, the most famous store in Freeport (and definitely a must-not-miss experience!) is a visit to the world's first L.L. Bean. From 1912, when Leon Leonwood Bean first opened up his boot store in the basement of his brother's Main Street store, L.L. Bean is one of Freeport's treasures. And in the tradition of that first store, today's L.L. Bean is still open 24 hours a day. L.L. Bean still remains Freeport's principal business and employer.
