Iowa Bed and Breakfast
Iowa is perhaps better known for hosting the first presidential caucuses every four years. The political spotlight shines on Iowa as delegates gather at this the starting place for choosing who will represent each majority party in a quest to become president. Perhaps your bed and breakfast hosts can shine some light on the political intrigue.
Don't worry if politics isn't your thing. There's much more to see and do while in Iowa and your bed and breakfast innkeepers are the best sources of information on local sights and attractions. Des Moines, Iowa's state capital is home to sports teams, arts and cultural events, museums and the ever popular Iowa State Fair. Held annually in August for a 10 day period, it features a wide variety of things to see and do. There are livestock shows, contests and tournaments, concerts, food and exhibits. What or who will you see carved in butter at this year's Iowa event?
Of course there are many outdoor activities you can partake in. Hiking, biking and golf are great ways to appreciate Iowa's beautiful landscapes. Near Prairie City is the Neal Smith National Wildlife Center where you can learn about prairie heritage and the flora and fauna that inhabit this eco-culture. Storm Lake, a large glacial lake in Iowa, is a great place to fish and has an indoor and outdoor water park resort. Take a day trip from your bed and breakfast, it's guaranteed to be fun for the whole B&B family!
Iowa dining specialties include breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches, corndogs and turkey drumsticks, but you'll also find cuisine reflecting the ethnic population that lives here. Tamales, sushi and spicy vegetarian curry are some of the flavors that will attract an array of palates and pocketbooks. Don't be shy, ask your bed and breakfast innkeepers for suggestions if you're not sure.
